Community Based Art Projects - Help Create a Sense of Place"

Edited: May 31, 2018

Here are some notes from the Liz Parham presentation at the ACYC on April 11, 2018. Inspiring stuff...we are doing a lot of it already (classes, studios, have the Cultural District, galleries, public art, Alleys as Galleries, and more) thanks to ACYC and the City ...we can tighten it up and brand, it with messaging, for the Culture portion of the Tourism tab of the Knowledge Park Action Plan. Questions for us: What are our assets, what are we unique for or a hub for, and where can we add value to our community's cultural plan? We have lots of partners and we can build this village together, collectively defending arts & culture with collaboration! Thank you Debra and ACYC!

On March 14th, Project for Public Spaces (PPS) hosted a 2 day workshop in the Gettys Courtroom, where RHEDC, community members, Placemaking team members, and city staff came together to identify placemaking opportunities in Knowledge Park. We participated in several group exercises, did a walking tour of downtown, and created concept placemaking maps for 5 specific locations. PPS then created a Placemaking Master Plan in the following weeks, designed to activate underutilized spaces in Knowledge Park that will attract knowledge workers, businesses, residents, and visitors. I ran across this over the weekend - while this particular initiative is to increase diversity in the food industry, I thought the concept was pretty cool and perhaps even doable in Rock Hill.
